Each year the students at Warialda Public School participate in a Spelling Bee to raise money for resources. Students are given a list of words to learn in the weeks leading up to the Spelling Bee. In this time they try to get as many sponsors as they can. Sponsors can either nominate a money amount for each work spelt correctly or give a donation amount. There is a spelling test in each class and the best students in each year progress to the finals. The finals are held in front of parents and community members. In the finals, words are read out and each child has a chance to spell them aloud. Students progress through the rounds until there is one winner in each year group. The winners are presented with a trophy at a whole school assembly and gift certificates are given to the students who have raised the most money in each year group. A gift certificate is also given to the student who raises the most money in the school. In 2007 the money raised from our Spelling Bee will be used to buy a new Library computer. |
